JAMAICA BAY, NEW YORK. On 18th December 1954 the Italian Airlines plane, Flight 451, from Rome crashed into Jamaica Bay in heavy rain on its’ fourth attempt to land, killing 26 passengers and crew. There were 6 survivors. Recovered mail received a two line explanatory cachet. This cover from Milan, with the enclosed Christmas card, had the stamps washed off in the crash.
