1833 Malaya / Singapore - 1833 entire letter to Glasgow, headed Campong Glom, Singapore 24 August 1833 inside. Various markings are on the front of the letter. The distance from Dover to Glasgow was 477 miles and the single letter rate was 1/2d. This letter was marked at 2/4d as a double letter rate. However, as it contained an enclosure it was re-rated as a treble weight at 3/6d. As this did not take into account the sea rate of 4d, a further marking of 3/10d was applied. On the back is a boxed INDIA LETTER / DOVER and a Glasgow 6 JAN 1834 arrival cancel. A very early letter from Singapore.
