1930s - 1930s 3c U.S. Reply Postal Card to California, uprated with a 1d stamp and cancelled with a violet GILBERT & ELLICE ISLANDS COLONY, P. O. TABITEUEA undated canceller. The message from the postmaster refers to cancelling his order. As the reply card was prepaid, it is interesting that a postmaster would put an additional stamp on. Presumably, being a small place (European population in the 1930s was 4!) he thought that going to a non-commonwealth country the postage should be higher. A very rare item, probably unique from this country .
