1794 Jamaica / Great Britain - 1794 (24 July) entire from Kingston to Edinburgh with two 1/1, (both crossed out), a 2 and a 2/3 charge marks on the face. A fine strike of the horseshoe FALMOUTH SHIP LRE is on the front of the entire, on the back is a smudged Bishop mark.

1874 Great Britain - 1874 envelope, endorsed Confidential sent to Right Honbl. B Disraeli, Downing Street. A BRECHIN AU 14 74 datestamp is on the cover along with a red Official Paid, London, AU 15 74 cancel. Endorsed at the lower left “Cairns”, this cover was sent by Lord Cairns, to Disraeli who was Prime Minister at that time. (20 February1874 to 21 April 1880) Lord Cairns was the Chancellor under Disraeli during this period.

1844 Great Britain / Falkland Islands - 1844 Free frank unstamped envelope used internally within London with  NO 7 and NO 8 1844 datestamps. In the lower left corner is a Stanley signature. At this time Lord Stanley, the 14th Earl of Derby, was the Colonial Secretary. It was after him that Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands was named. An interesting piece of ephemera for a Falkland Island collector. Stanley mail is not common!

1791 Jamaica - 1791 folded letter to Madeira dated March 20 1791 that was sent privately to London with a notation at the upper left “Try Mr Gordon, Percy Street or Jamaica Coffee House”. A manuscript 1/1 charge is on the front of the letter along with a PORTMOUTH SHIP-LRE handstamp. On the back of the letter is a Bishop mark of 2 June and a Madeira receiving manuscript notation for 8 July 1791. An interesting item using a Coffee House as a forwarding agent.

1879 Zululand / Great Britain - ZULU WAR.  1879 incoming envelope from London, addressed to Captain Edward B Evans, 10th Battery, 7th Brigade, Natal, the 1d and 6d embossed stamps cancelled by LONDON MY 8 79 W 19 duplex cancellers. There are no arrival markings. Captain Evans was commissioned as an officer in the Royal Artillery in 1867. In 1876 he served with a battery that was posted to Mauritius. In early 1879 his regiment were sent to South Africa after the defeat of the British at Isandalwala. He took part in the latter part of the Zulu War and was at Ulundi in the final conflict in July 1879. At the beginning of 1880 he returned to England and took up an appointment as Adjutant of Artillery Militia at Wicklow, Ireland. A fine incoming cover to an officer in the Zulu War, even though there are no arrival datestamps.
