1898  BCA - 1898 locally addressed envelope franked with a 1d perf 12 tied by a ZOMBA JU 9 98 datestamp. There does not appear to be any control at the back (SG57ab). Early usage of this stamp which Stanley Gibbons only list as being issued in June that year.

1896 - 1896 4d registered envelope bearing an additional 1d, paying the soldiers concession rate to India, the stamp cancelled by the 863 barred numeral obliterator of Zomba, with a c.d.s. of  JY 17 96 at the lower part of the cover. The cover has been by Capt. Stuart, the commander of the armed forces. On the reverse are Chinde JY 26, Sea Post Office SE 27 and Simla OC 6 96 transit and arrival cancels. In October 1896 Captain Stuart commanded a force of 58 Sikhs and 196 African troops to attack the Angoni Chief Chikuse. A rare soldiers letter rate item from British Central Africa. Fine.
