1900 1d reply paid card, overprinted V.R.I. to England cancelled by a barred oval numeral '777'. The written contents are dated 'SPRINGFONTEIN AP 24 00. A Banbury MY 19 00 arrival cancel is on the reverse. In the book 'The Postmarks of South Africa' by Putzel, he states that 'This Cape canceller was plundered during the (Boer) War and used at Springfontein about 15 April to 6 May 1900'. A remarkable and exceptionally rare proving cancel.
