1903 envelope to Tonga, Friendly Isles, endorsed 'Card Only', franked with a G.B. 1d cancelled HORNSEY NO 26 03. A boxed 'CLOSED AGAINST INSPECTION' handstamp is on the front of the cover as well as a hexgonal 'T' tax mark. A circular 'TO PAY '8' DOUBL E DEFICIENCY POSTAGE' handstamp is also on the front of the cover. This marking is very similar to New Zealand tax markings, so could have been applied there as the letter went via Auckland (28 DE 03). On arrival in Tonga a ½d and 7½d postage stamps were affixed and used as Postage Dues. These have been cancelled NUKUALOFA JA 18 4. The cover has been opened out for display. A scarce item.
