1870 SCILLY ISLANDS. 1870 Ballon Monte letter to St. Seine, Cote dβOr, that was on board the ill fated flight β34β Jacquard that departed Paris on November 28 1870. The Jacquard was blown off course and crashed into the sea off the Scilly Islands, west of Cornwall. Several of the mail bags were recovered and the mail forwarded. This letter, which has had the stamp washed off in the incident arrived at its destination, St. Seine, on December 27th, over a month after it was posted. Fine and rare β the earliest air crash in the UK.
