1927 LAKE VICTORIA, KENYA. On March 12th the Fairy IIID that was scheduled to fly from Kisumu, Kenya, to Khartoum, Sudan, while undertaking a trial flight prior to departure, the aircraft came down four times due to engine trouble. On the fourth occasion, the floats collapsed with the aircraft sinking in ten feet of water. Both the pilot and mechanic escaped injury and were able to salvage the mail. The recovered mail was forwarded by surface after receiving a three line violet cachet. This cover from Nairobi to England has the red KENYA – SUDAN AIR MAIL MR 12 27 datestamp as well as a number of backstamps.
