1935 FLINDERS ISLAND, AUSTRALIA. On 2nd October, the Holyman's Airways de Havilland DH.86 Express “Loina “had taken off from Melbourne at 0815 and was approaching Flinders Island on schedule. Loina disappeared when approaching Pat’s River aerodrome, Flinders Island. The plane was observed just off the south end of Prime Seal Island by the Flinders Island but crashed into the sea. The three crew members and two passengers were killed. Three bags of mail, one each for Flinders Island, Launceston, and Hobart, were washed up, and while the Flinders Island bag was dried at the island, and all the letters delivered, the Launceston and Hobart bags were sent to Melbourne by plane on Saturday 5 October, and then placed onboard the Taroona for Launceston arriving 6 October. This letter has a manuscript explanatory note on the back. This is the cover illustrated by Sanford. Fine and rare.
