1952 BANGKOK on 22 March 1952 the Lockheed Constellation L-749 “Venlo” en route from Amsterdam to Sydney via Karachi and Jakarta was approaching Bangkok airport when one of the no. 3 engine propeller blades separated and a fire broke out in the engine nacelle. The aircraft landed safely on runway 21. Before coming to rest however, the right main gear collapsed and a major fire erupted. The ten crew members and thirty four passengers escaped.
