SHANNON, IRELAND. On 5 September 1954 a K.L.M. Lockheed Constellation that was on route from Amsterdam to New York stopped to refuel at Shannon Airport. A minute or so after taking off the tail touched the water and the plane crashed into the mud killing the pilot two crew members and twenty three passengers. Recovered mail received a single line cachet ‘SALVAGED FROM K.L.M. CRASH AT SHANNON’. This cachet is in violet and the cover has been resealed with brown tape.
