POLAND. On 19th December 1962, the LOT Vickers Viscount flight from Brussels to Warsaw via Berlin crashed on landing at Warsaw killing all 33 passengers and crew on board. The plane was landing in harsh, winter weather conditions, with dense near-ground fog, poor visibility and temperature of 5 degrees below zero. It is believed that the pilot stalled the plane when coming in to land. This cover from Chicago has had the stamps washed off when emergency vehicles doused the fire. On the back is an explanatory label in Polish. Uncommon.
