On 24 November the T. W. A. Lockheed Constellation on a flight from Chicago to Los Angeles took off from Midway Airport, but a fire developed in one engine, and in attempting to circle back, the plane hit the ground and fire ensued. All the crew members and passengers were killed. This badly charred cover was forwarded in an Official Post Office ‘ambulance’ envelope along with a printed explanatory slip. (Sanford Ref. 591124)
