On May 29th 1947 the United Air Lines flight from New York to Cleveland crashed shortly after take off from La Guardia Airport, killing the pilot, Beuton Baldwin, the co-pilot and 38 passengers and crew. Only 15lbs of mail was recovered, these receiving a four line cachet ‘DELAY DUE TO AIR MAIL / INTERRUPTION NEAR / NEW YORK, N.Y. / MAY 29 1947’. Uncommon.
