1968 LONDON HEATHROW. The B. O. A. C. Boeing 707 flight to Sydney, Australia, left London Heathrow at 4:27 p.m on the 8th April. Two minutes into the air, the pilot signaled that one of the left-side engines had detached and the plane was burning. He attempted a forced landing but crashed on Runway No. 5. One of the eleven crew members and four of the one hundred sixteen passengers were killed. Part of the mail was recovered in poor condition. This cover to New Zealand received a green cachet ‘SALVAGED FROM AIRCRAFT / ACCIDENT LONDON 8-4-68’. A good strike of this cachet.
