1954 PHILIPPINES AIRLINES DOUGLAS DC6, ROME. On its’ approach into Ciampino Airport, Rome, the aircraft went into a steep dive and crashed into the ground killing all on board. Severe turbulence was suggested as to the cause of the crash. This badly burned cover from Japan to London has the Italian cachet ‘Corrispondenza recuperate in sequito / incidente aero del 14 GEN 1954’. There is also a red manuscript ‘Salvaged From P.A.L. Aircraft Crash’ and initialled.
