1928 ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA. On August 15 1928 a Pan American Airways flight from Havana, Cuba, to Key West was forced to land in the Gulf of Mexico. The pilot was rescued by the S. S. Legionnaire and the damaged mail recovered. It was processed in St. Petersburg where it received a three line cachet ‘REC. ST. PETERSBURG, FLA / AUG 16 1928 / FR. Wrecked Plane NC55.’ This cover to London is from Havana, Cuba. The stamps have moved a little from water damage.
