1941 UNIDENTIFIED INCIDENT. A censored cover from London 15 XI 41 to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with a 2/3d machine cancellation, that paid the correct rate for mail going by ship to New York and then by air to South America. An ‘AVIAO ATRASADO’(aircraft delayed) cachet is on the front of the cover, on the back is an arrival datestamp of 16 XII 41, a 4½ week transit time. The cover would have gone from New York to Rio by Panam, and the Portuguese cachet confirms that the delay would have been by an accident on this routing. An interesting cover.
