1937 IMPERIAL AIRWAYS “COURTIER”. On 1st October 1937 the aircraft was making its scheduled landing at Phaleron Bay, Greece, but the pilot failed to flatten the flying boat out and it struck the water with great force, which cause the hull to burst open, and it sank in a few minutes. Two passengers drowned, and five passengers were injured, one seriously. This cover from JERUSALEM, PALESTINE 27 SP 37 has a boxed violet cachet ‘DAMAGED BY / SEA WATER / IN AIRCRAFT / ACCIDENT’.
