LANGEBERG REBELLION. 1897 cover to England endorsed ‘On Active Service’ sent by Pte S. J. Solomon, P. A. G. (Prince Alfred Guards). The cover has been signed at the lower left above ‘Officer Commanding Active Service Detachment’. A fine strike of KURUMAN BECHUANALAND JY 28 87 is on the cover that on arrival in England was taxed with an octagonal ‘T 25’ mark and a 1d / F.B. h/s. A London AU 23 97 arrival cancel is on the back. This campaign came about after Chief Galeshewe shot and killed a police office sent to slaughter his cattle after an outbreak of rinderpest. The campaign, that lasted 9 months, is sometimes known as the Galeshewe or Rinderpest Campaign. A rare cover from a soldier in the Prince Alfred Guards. Ex Gerald Sattin.
