1893 MATABELE WAR cover to Bedford, England, but redirected on arrival, with a m/s endorsement ‘Stamps not Available, On Active Service’ that was taxed 6d on arrival A PALAPYE DE 5 93 dispatch datestamp is on the front of the cover along with an Evesham JA 9 94 cancel. Vryburg DE 12 and Bedford JA 8 94 transit cancels are on the back. This cover was written by one of the men (probably an officer) in the Khama’s column that advanced towards Bulawayo from the west. Very few covers are known from this conflict that originated in Bechuanaland.
