1902 censored cover, ex the Vredefort Road Burgher Camp to Cape Town, with a Free State 1d cancelled VREDEFORT ROAD JA 28 02. The cover has censor tape at the top and two ‘Passed Press Censor’ cachets, one tying the tape. Bloemfontein 31 JA and Cape Town FE 2 02 transit and arrival cancels are on the back. No cachets were on mail from this Burgher Camp but after August 1901 virtually all mail through this post office is ex the Camp, and there was a ‘Horak’ in the Camp at that time. (Name in manuscript at lower left) This Burgher Camp at the end of 1901 had 243 men, 638 women and 1086 children interned there. Mail from this camp is very scarce and seldom seen.
