1901 ‘Folio’ letter card to H.M.S. Hibernia, Malta, endorsed ‘On Active Service, No Stamps Obtainable’ written from a soldier of the Imperial Yeomanry in Kimberley Hospital. A KIMBERLEY JY 16 01 datestamp is on the front of the card along with a Passed Press Censor / W.E. / Kimberley h/s (The censor was W. Elton). The writer complains of the conditions in the hospital and says ‘you don’t get enough to eat and what bit of extra grub that comes along is seized and devoured by the orderlies’. !! Interesting ‘Folio’ card with, on the back, a list of countries the card can be sent to for a 1d. A most interesting card to an unusual destination.
