THIRD BURMA WAR. 1886 India ½ Anna envelope, opened out for display, to Jhansi, India, cancelled MINBOO DE 27 86. Rangoon DE 31 86 transit and Jhansi 7 JAN 87 arrival cancels are on the back of the envelope. Written under the backflap is “This may go by the first casual steamer – they sometimes take letters." The 3rd Burma War took place between 7 and 29 November 1885 when King Thibaw surrendered, but for a number of years after British and Indian troops were engaged in a guerrilla war which prolonged the war until the 1890’s.
