1888 envelope to England with three 1d’s and a 2d cancelled BEACONSFIELD JU 25 88. The ½ oz rate was 6d and it appears as though a 1d has fallen off and a ‘Commission British Red Cross & Order of St John’ label has been affixed and tied by a blank circle h/s on both the front and back. Beaconsfield was originally named Du Toits Pan, in the Diamond Fields near Kimberley. The name was changed in 1883. A most unusual and interesting item!
