Cape of Good Hope

Ref: G4225
  • £225.00

1896 cover to Germany with five 1d’s each tied by a superb barred numeral ‘722’ with a TSHISA JA 4 96 datestamp at the right. Cape Town transit and Aschersleben 26.1.96. arrival cancels are on the back. Tshisa was a small village in Griqualand East. The Post Office opened in May 1891but was renamed Kenegha Drift in March 1897. Although a little roughly opened at the top, this is a very fine proving cover for this ‘hard come-by’ and short lived cancel.
