1899 1d postal stationery envelope to Port Elizabeth cancelled by a very fine strike of the uncommon STERKSTROOM AU 2 99 datestamp, with a similar cancel alongside. A Port Elizabeth 3 AU 99 arrival cancel is on the back. Sterkstroom is situated on the Hex River 35 miles north west of Queenstown. The village was established in 1875 by the Dutch Reform Church and the post office was opened in 1881. Fine.
