1898 2½d envelope to London cancelled by the extremely rare MAKOMERIN MY 3 98 datestamp with another alongside. Matatiele MY 4 and London MY 28 98 transit and arrival cancels are on the back. North west of Matatiele, Makomerin was very close to the Basutoland border, Very little is known of this village which seems to have disappeared off the map. This cancel precedes the date given by Frescura by two years, and is possibly the only known cover from this village in this period. Extremely fine and rare.
