1897 1½d postal card to Morges, Switzerland, cancelled by the very scarce MAFUBE FE 3 97. A Matatiele FE 3 transit and Morges 28.II.97 arrival cancels are on the card. Mafube was a very small remote village just south of the Basutoland border near Quaka’s Nek. The village was established in 1885 as a Paris Evangelical Missionary Station. Frescura has the earliest date recorded from Mafube as 31 March 1897. This card predates that by 8 weeks. A fine and very scarce card.
