1899 2d envelope to Germany cancelled by a poor strike of the barred numeral ‘669’ with a very fine strike of the rare IZELI JU 2 99 datestamp at the lower left. King Williams Town JU 2 and Detmold 24.6.99. transit and arrival cancels are on the back. Izeli was established in the early 1850’s as a result of the frontier wars, but missionaries were already in the area. This cover looks as though it is inter missionary. The cover has been repaired at the lower right but an uncommon item from this small village in the eastern Cape.
