Egypt / Ship Incident

SHIP INCIDENT. 1941 ‘The Continental Savoy, Cairo’ envelope to England sent air mail from F.P.O. 169 16 JY 41. The cover has an R.A.F Censor 2 h/s and a violet boxed ‘DAMAGED BY SEA-WATER’ cachet. This cover probably travelled by air on the horseshoe route to Durban, South Africa, and then by surface mail to England. At some point it was damaged and received the cachet on arrival in England. Although other covers are known from this incident, to date it has not been possible to tie this to a specific ship. An interesting ‘Hotel’ envelope.
