1885 cover, endorsed at the top ‘From M. Sullivan, Skilled Ship / H.M.S. Monarch, Alexandria’ and countersigned by Lieutenant John H Home (JH) for the Commanding Officer to get the 1d sailors’ concession rate. The G.B. 1d stamp has been cancelled by a barred ‘F B’ on arrival in London. On February 10th. HMS Monarch was the first seagoing turret ship and the fastest ship of her day. She took part in the Bombardment of Alexandria in 1882.
