SOUTH ORKNEYS. 1950 cover sent registered air mail to England with three 1/-‘s and a 3d correctly paying the rate, cancelled by FALKLAND ISLANDS DEPENDENCIES - SOUTH ORKNEYS – 31 DE 50. The upper left 1/- has the ‘Broken Arc’ variety. This cover was written by Anthony Vernum, the meteorologist at the Signy Island base to his fiancé Margaret Murphy. It left on the ‘John Briscoe’ that sailed on January 28th on the second relief voyage of the season.. Fine and commercial.
