WILKINS ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION. 1929 cover with a 1d cancelled by a violet WILKINS ANTARCTIC EXHIBITION / DECEPTION ISLAND h/s. On the back is a Port Stanley 30 AP 29 arrival cancel. The original aim of the Expedition was to survey King Edward VII Land and reach the South Pole by plane. Due to bad weather conditions this was abandoned. Instead they tried to reach Graham Land plateau with a dog team.
