1957 cover to Southampton cancelled EASTBOURNE 22 DEC 1957. A label was affixed saying the cover has been accidentally delayed and tied by a Southampton 8 MR 58 datestamp. A delay of 76 days. A verbal enquiry produced the explanation that ‘A bundle or two of letters were found in an old mail sack that “must have been thrown to one side”, believed empty, during the Christmas rush’. Scarce and interesting.
