PORTO RICO. 1861 folded letter from Arecibo (June 26) to New York with a fine red crown circle ‘PAID AT SAN JUAN PORTO RICO handstamp. A ‘5’ h/s and a red 1/- manuscript prepaid marking are on the front of the letter along with a Boston JUL 23 transit cancel. On the back is an oval Vias y Compania, Puerto Rico forwarding agents h/s and San Juan Porto Rico JU 27 1861 departure and St Thomas JU 29 1861 transit cancellations. A couple of vertical creases well clear of the crown circle h/s hardly detract from this appealing letter.
