1941 cover addressed to ‘The Censor’ in Accra with a 1½d definitive and a blue GOLD COAST SPITFIRE FUND 1d label, both tied by an ACCRA 26 SEP 41 cancel. A very fine example of this label the 1d purchase price going towards the cost of a Spitfire. On 16 March 1941 a MK II Spitfire funded by the Gold Coast went into service with 91 squadron. It was withdrawn from service on 18th January 1944.
