CRIMEA WAR. 1857 patriotic cover to France with a strip of four 1d’s cancelled by two strikes of the scarce STRATHBLANE Scots Local canceller. (Rarity ‘E’) GLASGOW OC 24 57 and London OC 26 57 cancels are on the back of the cover. On the backflap is a fine embossed motif showing the Union Jack, French flag and the Turkish Star and Crescent, representing the three Allied countries that fought in the Crimea War. Cover imperfections but an extremely rare cover with this motif, believed only four of these Patriotic Covers exist.
