MAIL FROM A P.O.W. IN THAILAND. 1944 Japanese Prisoner of War card to London, dated 12.1.44. from Gunner Percy Gooden at No. 4 – Adam Road Camp, on the Thailand – Burma railway near Konkoita. The card has been censored by both the Japanese and British. The back of the card has pre-printed messages, the writer having to delete those that do not apply. Conditions at Konkoita were appalling. Few huts were roofed and the area, previously occupied by rõmusha, was filthy. Konkoita would become the focal point of the cholera outbreak that spread throughout the camps, carried by POWs passing through this camp on their way north. It was at Konkoika that the railway line being built from the south met the line that was being built from the north. A very scarce card from a P.O.W. at this Camp.
