POSTAL INCIDENT. 1939 cover that went air mail from London to New York that was in a stamp collectors safe deposit box when bombed in an air raid in September 1940. A boxed cachet was applied to items ‘DAMAGED BY WATER / AT / CHANCERY LANE SAFE DEPOSIT, / DURING AIR RAID / SEPTEMBER 1940’. An interesting survivor from a German bombing raid during the middle of the ‘blitz’.
