1842 turned letter sheet to London with a 1d Plate 18 lettered S E, large to close margins, tied by the very rare distinctive WHITEHAVEN Maltese Cross. A blue Whitehaven JA 29 1842 datestamp is on the letter, which was originally sent to Whitehaven on 28 January but then turned and sent back to
London. The letter, when sent from London, was from the Admiralty concerning the appointment in charge of mails on a contract vessel. An extremely rare item with this distinctive Maltese Cross. R.P.S. certificate
