Great Britain - WW2 incident, Damaged in Air Raid

Ref: G4254
  • £225.00

1943 damaged cover from Cape Town, South Africa, (11 APR 43) to Bala, Merioneth, North Wales, that has a violet two line cachet on the back “DAMAGED AS A RESULT / OF ENEMY ACTION”. As the mail for this region most probably went through either Manchester or Liverpool, this is where the incident most likely happened. Air raids were still continuing there, this was the most probable cause of this fire and water damaged cover. Very uncommon.
