Great Britain - WW2 incident

1944 window envelope sent from READING 24 VIII 44 – most probably locally and containing a bill, that has water damage at the right side. A stereograph label was attached with the following explanation. Dated 8 NOV 1944, READING, Berks. “I regret to inform you that the enclosed letter has been damaged through immersion in water and delayed in the post.” HEAD POSTMASTER. A possible result of a German air raid? However a delay of 76 days implies that the incident must have been of a major nature. Interesting and very uncommon.
