1899 cover to Baden-Baden, Germany, endorsed ‘Printing’ and went at the unsealed letter rate, with an interpanneau block of four Chinese Imperial Post ½c cancelled NANKING 24 JUL 99. A Hong Kong 2c has been cancelled SHANGHAI JY 26 99 and is also tied by a small boxed “I.P.O.”. handstamp. Lichtenthal 4.9.99 and Baden-Baden 5.9.99 transit and arrival cancels are on the back. This is believed to be the earliest known date of use of the Nanking I.P.O. tie-print. A very scarce cover.
