THE MURREE REBELLION IN THE INDIAN MUTINY. 1857 envelope to W. Walker, Kohat Castle, Murree, with an imperf 1 Anna tied by a barred obliterator and overwritten ‘Stamped’. An indistinct green 20 AUG 1857 dispatch and red Murree 22 AUG 1857 arrival cancels are on the back. This cover could well have been written by Lt. James Walker who had been wounded during Siege of Delhi . Kohat Castle (Fort) is in the South Punjab and built on a hilltop by the British army. During the Indian Mutiny it became a focal point of the Murree Rebellion shortly after this cover was received. A very fine and rare cover.
