JAPANESE OCCUPATION OF NICOBAR ISLANDS. 1944 post card from Isoya Imai, Sato Unit, I30, c/o Sasebo P.O. to his wife in Kyoto. ‘I30’ meant Nancowry Island in the Nicobar Islands. Sato Unit was part of the Independent Mixed 37th Brigade of the Japanese Army. The writer served in Central China and Burma as a member of the 15th Division before moving to the Nicobar Islands in the summer of 1944. After the War he was sent to a P.O.W. camp at Rempang Island in the Netherlands Indies until his repatriation to Japan in June 1946. A very fine and rare card from the Nicobar Islands.
