1870 folded letter sheet to London, endorsed ‘Via Bombay & Marseilles if practicable’ with an 8a and an 8p each tied by MADRAS PAID 20.8.1870 ‘1’ duplex cancels. A boxed forwarding agent h/s is on the front along with a London Paid 18 OC 70 arrival cancel. The route via Marseilles was closed on 23 October 1870 due to the Franco – Prussian War, so it just made it via Marseilles by a few days!
