  • £700.00

1836 envelope that was sent postage free from Dublin (4th September1836) to Kingston, Jamaica, by Sir Charles Yorke in his capacity as Inspecting Field Officer of the Militia. A superb red crown FREE / 4 SE 4 / 1836 cancel is on the front of the cover. Addressed to G Smith, the Receiver General, a very senior member of the Jamaica Government, who was in charge of all expenditure for Jamaica at that time. A very fine and rare cover, with very few ‘FREE’ letters recorded to the West Indies and this possibly the only known one to Jamaica from Ireland.
