1821 (1st September) entire from Belfast to Lynchburg, Virginia, that was put on board the ‘Atlantic’ a ship of 320 tons that sailed between Belfast and New York. On the back of the letter is a superb strike of the red ‘PACKET SHIP ATLANTIC / ABRAHAM BELL & CO OWNERS / NO. 33 PINE ST NEW YORK.’ The letter was rated at 27c, 2c ship fee and 25c for inland travel over 400 miles from New York to Lynchburg. A remarkably fine strike of this uncommon cachet.
